Dr Susan Buckham trained as a historical archaeologist before completing her PhD at the University of York. Her research developed an architectural typology for nineteenth-century gravestones and examined their craft-based production. Before taking up her post with the Society, Susan worked as the Carved Stones Adviser at the Council for Scottish Archaeology and managed a nationwide graveyard conservation project.
Audrey Dakin is an architect specialising in conservation. She is a part-time lecturer and tutor on the Edinburgh College of Art course in Architectural Conservation. Prior to joining the AHSS, she worked at Historic Scotland in the Technical Conservation, Research and Education Group, working with academics and practitioners on a range of subjects including Scottish slate, traditional windows and rural buildings.
Carmen Moran moved to Edinburgh in 2000, after completing an apprenticeship as Bilingual Secretary in her native Germany. Before joining the AHSS in January 2004, she worked at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh, assisting in the running of the Visitor Centre. In her spare time she enjoys creating art books and illustrations.
Mary Pitt joined the AHSS in November 2007 as a job-share Administrative Assistant. She moved to Edinburgh from Buffalo, New York to study at the University of Edinburgh in 2006. Since then, she has been awarded an MSc in History of Art. Prior to moving to Scotland, she completed a BA in Sociology at Yale University, which included two terms at Pembroke College, Cambridge.
