Come join us on a tour of Broomhall House, the home of the Bruce family for more than
300 years, which is only open by special arrangement. It continues to be lived in, and
cared for, by the descendants of King Robert the Bruce. This will be followed by a visit
to the historic “planned” village of Charlestown, which pre-dates New Lanark, and sits
on the Broomhall Estate. The tour to Broomhall will end with a visit to the Charlestown
Lime Kilns, which are regarded as one of the most important Industrial Revolution
remains in the UK
Relax on a day out to visit Arniston House, described as one of the most important
William Adam houses in Scotland, and sited only 11 miles from Edinburgh, followed by a
tour of Bowhill House, one of the homes of the Duke of Buccleuch.
At day out in Ayrshire by car to visit two separate properties; an unusual conversion of a
17th Century dower-house into a farmhouse and a 13th century tower-keep with later
additions which was “gothicised” in the 18th century.
Unfortunately, this events has been cancelled, however the organisers are exploring
alternatives for disseminating the knowledge gathered for the event. We will provide
an update in due course.
