Christmas party – Chessels Court
Christmas party 2023 in lovely Chessels Court
Venue: 5 Chessels Court, Canongate, Edinburgh EH8 8AD
Time: 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Thanks to the kind generosity of AHSS member Rosemary Mann, this year’s Christmas party is being held at Chessels Court in the burgh of Canongate. Chessels Court was built in 1745 by wright Archibald Chesils to provide mansion flats for the well-to-do, with further wings added in 1765. The building was rescued from demolition by Robert Hurd in 1960 using Patrick Geddes’ principle of ‘conservative surgery’ and restored as a desirable place to live. Rosemary’s flat has exuberant plasterwork, once attributed to Thomas Clayton but probably by William Robertson.
Please note the property has four steps and one cat!
