Phoebe Traquair Mural Tour (Mansfield Traquair Centre & Episcopal Cathedral Song School)

Join us for an exciting day out touring some of Edinburgh’s most beautiful locations to see
murals by Phoebe Traquair.

The day will begin at the Mansfield Traquair Centre, 15 Mansfield Place, Edinburgh EH3 6BB, at 10.30. It is 20 minutes from Waverley and 15 from the Bus Station. Or jump in a taxi!

10.30: Mansfield Traquair Centre: It is a former Catholic Apostolic Church (that most esoteric of denominations) which is an A-listed Neo-Romanesque building by Rowand Anderson. The Phoebe Traquair murals cover every surface high and low. It is often described as Scotland’s Sistine Chapel. There will be a comprehensive explanation of the iconography.
Then a short walk to –

12.00: Scottish National Portrait Gallery for a light lunch (self-pay). The A-listed Venetian Gothic Gallery is by the same architect as Mansfield Traquair. There will be an opportunity to see the stunning evocation of Scottish history in the Entrance Hall.
Then by tram or taxi to-

14.30: St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral Song School (Oldrid Scott) to see more Phoebe Traquair murals with their appropriate musical theme. Commentary provided.
Then a stroll across the remarkable Cathedral Close to-

16.00 St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral by George Gilbert Scott and Oldrid Scott (spires!); also furnishings by Robert Lorimer.

Then homeward to the West, perhaps from the nearby and recently refurbished Haymarket Station!
