Terpersie Castle is a Z-plan tower built in 1561 by the Gordon family. Abandoned in the 1880s, it lay in ruins until restoration a century later.
Castle Forbes was built in the Scottish Baronial style for the 17th Lord Forbes and must be unique in having been conceived by Archibald Simpson but completed by John Smith.
