What’s in a name? Scotland is famous the world over for its romantic landscape, studded with castles and in this talk, Ranald MacInnes, architectural historian and Head of Place, Publishing and Learning at Historic Environment asks ‘what is a castle?’. The answer is more complex than it seems and, in coming to some conclusions, Ranald explores many of Scotland’s most celebrated landmark buildings as well as a few surprising would-be castles and tower houses.
